Tarantino is an American director, writer and actor. Many of his films are categorised by exaggerated scenes of violence (Kill Bill 2003) extended scenes of dialogue (Pulp Fiction) non liner storylines and his cleaver use of non diegetic sound, generally within his soundtracks he uses score pieces from the 1960s to the 1980s. Music is an very rememberable characteristic of Tarantino films.
Through out his career he has made multiple successful films such as Django Unchained, Reservoir Dogs, Death Proof. Personally I feel Tarantino is so successful as all his films follow a recognisable structure which audience love due it being unconventional and interesting to watch. Visually all his films are engaging as for example the use of anime within Kill Bill is extremely creative I see his films as art.
Kill Bill Volume 1
Through out this film Tarantino shows his very quirky and captivating style of directing. The film is shot in colour as well as non colour this is very unconventional for a modern film. The use of black and white was used for a popular fight scene between the main character (Uma Thurman) and the crazy 88. This gave the extremely violent and graphic scene a cartoonish and humorous feel. Tarantino may have done this for that very purpose of creating dark humour.
Amine is also used in an interesting way as once again this scene is very graphic including violence and scenes of a sexual nature. This context of the scene is very serious however the use of anime has made the scene more expectable to watch. The issues I feel Tarantino will have is that audiences do not understand the preferred reading of the scenes of violence being humorous, an example of this happening is within Clockwork Orange where the text was not understood by the audience. Clockwork Orange caused a moral panic within society I however feel that Kill Bill could not have such a large impact as it is more clear that the film is for humour and entertainment purposes. Also audiences within 2003 were more desensitized to violence as more films have exposed them to death, violence and sex. Clockwork Orange may have failed due audiences having a higher sensitivity to violent subjects.
