Uses & Gratification

Uses & Gratifications  This theory was first created in 1948 by Lasswell, he came up with four categories to why individuals consume media these four are surveillance, correlation, entertainment and cultural transmission.  Researches Blulmer and Katz expanded this theory and published it as their own in 1974, stating that people watch media for diversion, personal relationship, personal identity and surveillance. Diversion- Audiences will watch media to escape from their everyday problems and routine. Fiction films are perfect in sending audiences into another world, advanced CGI, 4D and IMAX technology has made it easier for audiences to submerge into media and be distracted from there daily life. Personal Relationship- Audiences will use media for emotional interaction for example people watch reality TV so they can look into the world of someone else, this gives them the illusion that they are connected with the celebrity. This is also common within films,...

Audience Feedback

Image
My results have shown that the teenage audience listens to multiple genres and styles of music. For example they is a collective mix of indie, pop, alternative and rap, stereotypically pop would be seen as mainstream for teenagers however this is not the case.Alternative rock is the chosen genre for my music video, due to the fluid taste in music with teenagers I feel it will be popular, my results back this up at three people last listened to the alternative genre. The range in music makes it harder to target a market as such a large range of people listen to different styles of music. More research will be needed into audiences who listen to the Alternative rock Genre. My results also show that audiences want music video narratives to go with the lyrics, out of the eight five chose yes to having a narrative going with the lyrics. As a producer I will take this information and consider it when creating my music video. Personally I feel that music videos should match the lyrics...

I don't want to limit my audiences so certain scenes may need to be censored or put in less detail to ensure it will not negatively effect audiences. Sky News have shown the issues with trying to regulate music videos for example only 132 music videos were sent to the BBFC in 2015 even through more then 4,000 music videos were put on YouTube showing that to police all music videos is truly impossible. From 132 videos 56 were seen as a 12 and 53 were a 15 and 1 an 18. This shows that most music videos by large companies are inappropriate and have sensitive content. This Morning YouTube video is an debate to see if music videos should be regulated.Sonia Poulton  argues that music videos need to be regulated due to them ex...

My desired grade is a Level 3, in order to improve my grade given I need to proof read my existing posts to ensure that my written communication is at a high standard also I need to look at high level exam board examples to give me inspiration for my own blog. To keep my time management I am going to create a time table which shows what posts will be done each week, this will ensure I keep on track and get a level 3 or 4. Audience research is missing from my blog, in order to reach high marks I need to make a detailed posts on audiences.

Goodwins Theory

Creating this power point has really helped me understand the conventions and common characteristics within music videos. As a producer I want to break the structuralist view of music videos and create an unconventional product. The issue I have with this is audiences may not understand my work as it does not follow a certain structure.
